Although not a reproduction of a vintage Belle Époque absinthe fountain, this is perhaps our most popular fountain.
Our handcrafted fountain features a classic "pineapple" finial on its lid, which is removable to add ice-cold water to the mouth-blown glass bowl. This classic decorative motif symbolizes hospitality and friendship. Historically, absinthe fountains were a high-end bar item, due to their hefty price tag, and customers would usually prepare the drink themselves by pouring an ounce of absinthe into their glass and placing an absinthe spoon on top with a sugar cube atop that. Then the lid was removed from the fountain and water and ice were added to the bowl. Turning the spigot slowly released the ice-cold water over the sugar cube, resulting in a milky-white emulsion of the anise oils and aromas of fennel, grand wormwood, and anise. Remember to refresh the water before each use.
